Tongue Thrust

Tongue Thrust

Tongue thrust, or reverse swallow, is an orofacial myofunctional disorder that occurs when you aren't swallowing properly. Sometimes, your tongue moves forward when you swallow. This causes your teeth to be pushed out of alignment over time.

This misalignment that occurs is very, VERY expensive to fix and may not be covered by insurance. And that's not all. When the braces come off, the tongue thrust can push teeth back out of alignment, meaning that the teeth can be pushed out of alignment AGAIN.
